Week 1: getting started

On April 18th, Rachel, Ashley and Kelly came together in the library to talk about our website and plan out how we are going to accomplish our project. We began by speaking a lot about color palettes for our website and decided on something more warm toned to give the website a cozy and inviting feel. Then, when we started going through the pre-made Wix website templates, we found a template that was more cool-toned that we all loved but it wasn’t exactly what we wanted originally. We tried to figure out how we would still be able to work our idea out and landed on a more cool-toned background with pops of warm-toned text for juxtaposition. Then, we went through the free images on Wix and found a really beautiful photo of a tea pot and some tea leaves in a bottle that was toppled over and we all fell in love with the photo and knew we had to use it.

Then we started talking about a name for our website, and went through the process of what we wanted to accomplish:

  • Tea and how it relates to opening up conversations of truthfulness

  • Tea and how it opens someone up to raw, emotional vulnerability

  • “Of tea and introspection”

  • Spill the Tea!

  • Sense to intimacy and closeness

  • Physical touch releases serotonin

  • Touch starvation

  • The idea of things that simulate that sense of cozy, togetherness

  • “Tea Art and the Art of Conversation” or maybe Tea and the Art of Conversation

  • “Spill Your Tea”

Then, we decided to do some research on tea rituals and watched a few youtube videos to learn more about the movements in making tea and the importance of certain steps and tools used. We also divided up roles for each member in the group to coordinate who is doing what. Our roles are website updates, which Ashley is going to do, research, which Wei and Kevin are going to do, resources, which Kelly is going to do, and the twine and physical book, that we are all going to have to work together on, and project manager, which Rachel is going to do.

On April 19th, we all met in class to go over our website so everyone was able to see it. We also decided to change back to a warm-toned color palette so we changed our background image to something more warmer toned. We felt like the cooler tones weren’t working well with the vibe we wanted to get across when someone would go to our website.

We also finally decided on a name, “Spill Your Tea” and looked through different fonts and colors for the title. Then, we went through the drop-down menus to organize everything and structure the website so it’s easy to navigate through. Also, Rachel put together a assignment section so we can all see what we need to get done before April 24th to make sure our website starts pulling together nicely, such as finishing the “About Me” section and the stories we are going to include for the twine game and website. Wei also started doing some research on tea rituals and different types of teas to include for our physical aspect.
